The Denver Piano Cello Duo, Grand Tango, was created with the goal of bringing audiences new piano and cello performances featuring original arrangements of the music of Astor Piazzolla.
For 36 years, Carl Algermissen and Ethan Lazarus have been performing together as a piano cello duo, bringing their unique sound to audiences, and introducing the music of Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla to two instruments he rarely composed for: piano and cello.
Piazzolla’s musical style, a ‘fusion’ of the tango tradition with classical and jazz elements, inspired Mr. Algermissen and Mr. Lazarus to take this phenomenal music and make it their own. The result of these effort led to their debut professional recording, Evenings with Astor, a compilation of 12 original arrangements, and their latest CD, Street Tango, released in 2018.

This Denver-based Piano Cello Duo has performed concerts regularly in the Denver area, and also has traveled the United States. Grand Tango was featured in concerts at: Music With a Mission (Centennial, CO), Arts on Vine (Denver, CO), Temple Sinai (Denver, CO) and Littleton, CO. They have performed in Keystone and Breckenridge. They also toured with concerts in Illinois and Massachusetts.
